Security Breach at Hetzner

Newletter that went out to clients.

Dear Clients

You might be aware of the recent security breach at Hetzner.  It exposed at least 40 000 peoples banking details, IDs and password. The reason for this was passwords were stored in plain text along with some other vulnerabilities. This was obviously an incredible oversight on their part and I am sure lessons were learned.

We have helped the few clients that self-host with Hetzner get their passwords changed and websites up and running again, luckily they were all websites that do not store personal client information, so all is good.

All clients that host through me can rest assured, Domains have confirmed that they have not made the same mistakes. All our information is encrypted and secure so nothing to worry about.

At Red Swirl Design we use a system called LastPass to store all passwords and sensitive information. So please know that we have taken all necessary steps to make sure your information is secure.

We can’t talk about security and not bring up https.  If you have missed the previous email about the importance of this please let me know so that I can resend it.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
